1 wk with 4 month old baby...Lisbon, Algarve or Mallorca?

Interest forums / Kids To Go

My wife & I are planning our first 1 wk holiday with our 4 month old baby at the end of April (including the Easter weekend). We want to relax but without lying by the beach / around a pool all day as that’s not our thing. We're trying to work out the best place to go with a baby in tow

We want somewhere sunny, less than 3 hr flight from London, with plenty to do & see. We like architecture & culture as well as lovely scenery but will probably not hire a car so walk-ability / good public transport is likely to be important. We plan to take the baby’s buggy

We normally go to cities, but something a bit more scenic might be nice for a change – I’m thinking a nice white-washed villa in a pretty town but don’t know if that’ll be too remote...or even too boring for a whole week

We’ve narrowed it down to the Algarve or Mallorca (for scenic sun & sea) and Lisbon (for more city/cultural).

Which would you recommend and why? Or is there somewhere better? Suggestions for specific areas (especially in Algarve or Mallorca) & accomodation would also be welcome

There's more info on my profile about what we like etc

Thanks!

Algarve just seems nicest to me but it's about you and what's best for your situation. I wouldn't take a baby to Lisbon though, because it's too crowded and city-ish, and won't be as relaxing with the baby.

Hi. Try looking at Villamoura in the Algave. We went there pre kids and I think it would be great with little one. There is a nice marina with lots of restaurants - you can eat by the water by candlelight.

My tip would be to go for slightly nicer accomodation than you did pre baby. A room with a balcony is an excellent place to chat/play cards etc together while baby naps inside.

Hope that helps.

Actually Lisbon would be great with a baby. We went with our 2 daughters aged 3 and 9 at the time and had a great time. You can do the open bustrip in which you get to see Lisbon, lots of culture stuff to see and it is not far from the beach if you want to take an easy day. I would def recommend it.

hildej,
Cool that you enjoyed Lisbon. Did they have yummy cuisine? For me the place I go would have to have some good food to try, :)

You can stay in Cascais, 20 min train from Lisbon. Great place to walk with a baby, good quiet beach and great food.
You can explore Lisbon easily also, just take the train from cascais with cenic 20min tryp and arrive in central Lisbon.
