read somewhere that if you add salt to a dish after it is cooked, you need only 70% of it. but read somewhere else that adding salt after cooking is suicidical.
It seem my post from yestarday has been removed, a bit prudish if you ask me. Whatever, on request of those of you who expressed interest, I will post my menu and comments after my visit on September 20th.
Hello,
I've set a budget of 5 euro per dinner for two and would like to know if anyone would like to share some (cheap and easy)recipes?
Here's what we had today
Shepherd's Pie
500g ground beef - 1.45euro
1 onion (no idea...10 cents?)
About 5 large potatoes (maybe 50 cents or even less)
Store bought pastry sheets (1.3 euro)
5 carrots (small) (about 0.30)
Salt, pepper and Worchester sauce
---
Total: 4 euro max.
I was just wondering who knows what merguez is, as it is one of the top sausages in France while being not at all of French origin.
Belgians maybe? Spaniards, Italians...?
Just back from a couple days in Amsterdam and would like to point any cheese fiends in the direction of the Kaaskamer, a wonderful cheese store on Runstraat, in the 9 Streets neighborhood.
Dutch cheese is divine (don't tell the French though) and this store has hundreds of local varieties, young and aged, and has quite a few "slow food" cheeses.
I highly recommend the goat with coriander, old leiden with cumin, goat with herbs, and 40 month old cheese. Ask the owner - a very tall man - for some…
Hey there...
a friend of mine has been gracious enough to buy me an electric arepa machine in her native venezuela and she's bringing along some of the good P.A.N. "precooked corn flour" used to prepare Arepas...
The problem is that that particular kind of flour is IMPOSSIBLE to get here in Buenos Aires (a city where asian and european products are muchy easier to get than peruvian or venezuelan ones...)
I can find good White corn flour but arepas don't work out well with that one... I suspect…
Hello. I'm new to this thread but I posted this in TTYC and thought this might be an even better venue:
I'm guessing that we may have an expert or two on here. Our local beer store (in upper NW) has a great selection and we have two bottles left before an influx of company this weekend.
Starting next week I shall offer a Breakfast Special Menu. These require pre-ordering and may incurr a premium. Are there any dishes that you would be be prepared to order the day before? In addition to the following I will be adding proper French Onion Soup and Falafal with dips.

The following items are intended to give our guests an opportunity to experience some of Yorkshire’s finest produce. These items must be pre-ordered to give us an opportunity to prepare them properly.
