There was a beef dish that I had on a Chinese train that I do not know the name of, but it was quite good. The beef was sliced and looked like it had been preserved and it was served cold. I don't think it was refrigerated, the preservation process probably keeps it from going bad. It was very well marbled with yellow streaks of fat. It almost looked like a beef prosciutto.

Does anyone know what this is?

I went Japanese, and had a bowl of not-too-salty miso soup with green onions and tofu, toasted-powdered-rice-added green tea, toasted nori seaweed, crispy grilled soy-infused salmon skin, and fresh white rice. Very nice change.

What on earth is "eggplant caviar"? I just saw an item on a menu here called La La Land Salad that includes "petite lettuce," avocado, various other stuff and "eggplant caviar." Of course, it's hard to take seriously a salad called La La Land in the first place.

However, I saw "tomato caviar" on a menu at a different recipe. Caviar are fish eggs, no?

My cherished 94 year old mentor has had enough of living and is wasting away .... by his choice. This is truly painful to see. I have heard that the most nutritious food to give him would be chicken soup.... I'm sure I've read that Jewish chicken soup is the right thing to feed him...

Has anyone got a tried and trusted recipe?

yours in sorrow....

I have good quality choco chips and a block of cream cheese flour eggs and white sugar. Sounds like the start of a good square or bar recipe.

I never make this kind of stuff but love to munch them at showers...anyone got a favorite recipe?

There's nothing like the taste of freshly blanched prawns. I bought a bag of prawns the other day, blanched them for about 15 secs in boiling salted water, dunked them in cold water and proceeded to shell and devour them. They taste so yummy!

I've been working up to this for a while and Saturday is the big day. Mrs. H and myself are inviting 4 people round home for dinner. They are all in either the restaurant or the wine business and we are indebted to them all for spoiling us on various occassions. So it's payback time.

I've been sourcing ingredients and wines to put together my own attempt at a posh nosh meal. here's the menu:

1) - Trilogy of fresh white truffle
Picked up my 12 grammes truffle yesteraday (got it from a chef at a…

Have you tried hemp seeds?

I came across Ruth's Shelled Hemp Seeds aka SoftHemp in the store today. I had no idea they were so healthy. A single teaspoon (14g) provides a ton of Omega 3 and 6 fatty acids, 5g protein, and over 100% of the recommended daily intake of Vitamin E, to name but a few.

The catch, of course, is that it's expensive. If you took one teaspoon per day, one package would only last four days. You pay about $3.50.

x-posted on Your Choice.

a very cruel idea indeed. Yuck! Double yuck!! So I put them into the tomato sauce for tonight's pasta. Then they proved their worth. I am done.

I am done. The end.
