What ever happened too...........

Interest forums / Get Stuffed

I live in Sydney, and do not see any stories or any mention, of health inspectors any more. You know those blokes that go into all sorts of places, and poke around where food is served. Do they still exist, in these days of cut backs, and a general reduction in servises have they also dissapeared?.............................Must be a great loss, to the current affairs shows!

I think the current affairs shows are now the official regulators of food hygeine, automotive industry compliance and financial planning advice.

They were never a serious force even when fully staffed. I had a friend who was a health inspector in CT and it was a token position. They don't have any real "teeth". Seriously, Have you ever seen, with your own eyes, a place shut down by the board or health?
The only things I've heard are second hand. This or that, invariarbly Chinese restaurant was shut down for serving cat ribs or some other BS.

A famous place was just shut down in New York this week.

Seriously? What's the place? It's a matter of public record so it's OK to mention it by name.

Well, as long as the rodent droppings aren't on my dinner plate what's the big deal?

Ha! only kidding, Yeah, it's good that they nailed 'em. It makes you wonder about major food manufacturers too. Canned soups, sauces, veggies, condiments etc. God only knows how many rodent hairs are processed into those items.

Here is another link, since the NYT requires registration.

Health inspectors still exist, at least they do in Melbourne. An ex-colleague's wife is one. You really don't want to hear some of her stories.
