Aldi (UK) this week....
On the vine tomatoes - 69p for 600gr.
Incredibly tasty - and nicer than M&S toms, which are £1.99 for the same amount.

Nice batty! I love on-the-vine tomatoes but hardly ever buy them since they tend to be to pricey. We got some mini tomatoes from our garden (they're supposed to be normal tomatoes but didn't grow much) and I put them on our BLT's made with homemade bacon and lettuce from our garden. It was yummy.

It would have been on home baked bread but my family won't eat BLT's on anything but white bread. And no, I'm not ready to start making homemade mayonnaise, so don't even go there. :)

Oh - it all sounds divine, except.... I can't stand lettuce.

Hey - Lidl (UK) have just started baking bread on the premises. The whole shop smells wonderful.
Nowt wrong with Lidl. I use it very much when I'm out of Britain.
Good quality - good prices. A bit like Aldi.

Good deal...but we don't have Aldi in Italy (or at least not in Palermo). We got Lidl though.... ;-)

At least the tomatoes from the market are good...or you can always grow your own.

They bake bread here too (in some of them).

We use it a lot for non-Italian basics, but also for meat and fruit and vegetables sometimes...its great quality for the price.

Ha - that would be nice. I might ask if they would.

I haven't tried Aldi's tomatoes, billy.

I have tried their other veg. - and found them almost tasteless; so I never buy Aldi veg - it looks great, though. (I'm guessing it's irradiated - it's the only way I can fathom how food can look so good and be almost devoid of taste.)

Aldi's wine remains superb.

I love Aldi I can buy nearly everything there. Veg tends to be hit or miss, sometimes the Veg is really good and some great deals, othertimes it all looks like its just about to rot. I haven't yet worked out if a certain day of the week is better then others. Less money on groceries is more cash in the travelling kitty.

Very good shout by *9 - marichel1981, re: Aldi fruit n veg. I dunno what's the best day either.
Sometimes the shelves are packed to breaking point, other days they're empty.
Could be a Thursday or a Monday - either way ! !
Quality does vary a lot too, as mentioned. I buy raspberries there, cos they're quite cheap.
However, I don't eat them - they're for my parrot ! !
