A blog from Plimoth Plantation. A Boiled Salad, Second Lesson
>In simplest terms, boiled salads are boiled veggies seasoned with ginger, cinnamon and a little sugar, dressed with either oil and vinegar or melted butter and vinegar, served over toasted bread and topped with hard boiled eggs cut into quarters.

And this is an Elizabethan recipe for boiled salad made with spinach & currants. An Excellent Boiled Salad

Thanks, nutrax. Presumably that's the source of Jacobs's salad. I still say that most salads were raw, although apparently they could be boiled, as is still the case today.

I vote for turkey too - even if it's dry as a bone. I love it all pecan pie, mashed potatoes, gravy! Bring it on - except Beyonce - bleech.

a turkey dinner is what thanksgiving is about- mainly tradition and a wondrful meal to be eaten with friends and loved ones.

One year I was in Mexico by myself and I was trying to find something to eat that would make me feel like I was having a Thanksgiving meal. The best I could do was a camote (sweet potato) served with condensed milk and jam from a street vendor. It sounds really weird but it was delicious and comforting and it introduced me to a preparation I would have never thought of!

I'm not American and have only had a Thanksgiving dinner once in my life. It was very traditional, with turkey.

I'd not change a thing.

#14 -- Street vendors sell sweet potatoes in Cairo too. (not with condensed milk and jam, alas.) They do make great street food on a chilly day.

A friend of mine spent Thanksgiving in Australia, visiting his Aussie in-laws. He offered to make a pumpkin pie. Seeing as it was summer, all he could find was a large, green-fleshed squash. He said the pie looked absolutely weird, but tasted just fine.

I'm going back to Texas for Thanksgiving. My mom and dad are making hickory-smoked steak and fried catfish. It's great.
