Cast iron is one thing. I destroyed a stoneware piece by trying to heat it on the stove top.

I ended up putting it in at 90C then turning it up gradually to 180C. Seems to be fine but I think I'd cook the chicken for less time in the future.

This is the one I bought.

From the link:

Recommended Retail Price: $579.00
Our price: $389.00 Save $190.00

OMG, mockchock, I hope the $ sign stands for Argentinian Peso.

It is expensive but it's supposed to be one of the best. that is why I was really worried using it the first time and why I've wanted it and gone without for years.

I decided to buy myself an early Christmas gift :)

I hope you like your Xmas gift. :)

Out of curiosity checked the price in Sweden (diam 27 cm, 4.1 l): 1,069.00 SEK = 154.943 AUD.
How much would you pay for flight ticket to Stockholm? :)

OOps again, Scrolled down your link. It's much bigger volume you've got. Good bargain!

They are very heavy though and it had to come all the way from France to Australia.

I did get away with paying $300AUD for mine online so it was a bit cheaper than the link but in the shop here they were $470AUD!

Ok.

Mine is 6.3 litres I believe. It's so beautiful, think I'm in love ;)

It's odd. Some sites say it's 6.3 others say 6.7litres.. and I was told mine can handle more than 180C like that link says.

I'm confused!!!

I have three Le Crueset, I have never worried a bit about temp when I take them out of the fridge, I just throw them on a gas flame or in the oven and it all seems ok. I have never even worried about low heat!

I have had some enameled items that heat has affected so I was a bit worried but seriously, never a problem with these.

I think that is why they are so expensive as they are also so very durable.
