Quick recipe demonstrations in Spanish

Interest forums / Get Stuffed

Hoping to find a recipe for Cornish pasties that would show them being made, I came across one short video on YouTube by "The Constant Cook," or "El Cocinero Fiel." The cook demonstrated making a pasty, and at one point apologized for his accented English. In fact, his English sounded good, although if you listened closely you could hear him saying that you had to ess-slice the potatoes. Putting that vowel before an initial s is typical of some native speakers of Spanish.

In any event, that may be his only English-language video. I've now looked at dozens of his demonstrations in Spanish, all of which show him as he prepares the food. He gives measurements as he goes, but a list of ingredients and measurements appears at the end of the video in case you can't keep up.

Here's a recipe for pancakes. I understood everything except when he said that he likes them with "jarabe de arce," which turns out to be maple syrup. Pancakes.

For a little bit of humor, watch him make his chocolate cake. "The only problem," he says, "is that it doesn't look good." He suggests cutting it into portions before bringing it to the table. Chocolate cake.

Edited by NorthAmerican to add the chocolate cake demonstration.
