Thanks for your input friends.

As the butcher shop ostrich meat is currently around twice the price, weight for weight, of fine beef rump steaks --- and I'm no squillionaire --- I'll plump for rump.

The time I had it, everything else at the restaurant was very ehhhh, so I guess that is why the ostrich was very ehhh. But I have never had a desire to eat it again.

It was a shame too, it was a birthday dinner for one of my girlfriend's uncles, so I could not really complain too much, but had to sit there and pretend everything was great,

I first came across it in a restaurant about 10 years ago - in Wales, of all places. Chef cooked it medium-rare. Taste and texture good - not dissimilar to fairly well-hung beef.
