Around a year ago, I was moaning (making a signifant negative comment on my critical journey?) about the BBC's Olive food magazine.
I pointed out that it was patronising to receive a special subscriber-only cover.
At some point last year, I pointed out that LP's travel magazine, promoting itself as an armchair read, was awful - not least since I thought LP was all about travelling in person, not vicariously.
Today, I received a complimentary copy of the new LP travel magazine. I am delighted to note that armchair travel has been relegated and is now buried in the last quarter - pp. 110-115.
But - the sample copy states, on the cover, SPECIAL SUBSCRIBER'S COPY It is indeed in block on the cover.
I assume the apostrophe appears before the s to make it crystal clear that I am the one and only subscriber - even though I'm not a subscriber at all. Or maybe it's just to underline the value of each subscriber.
When will they ever learn?
P.S. The good news is that BBC Worldwide, which owns LP, made £1B last year; good news for fans of classical music (BBC Radio 3) and intelligent discourse (BBC Radio4) and interesting television (BBC4).
P.P.S. I looked up BBC/LP jobs today. I was less than enthralled to note that they state: Every career is a journey. This said, if it wasn't for every idiot being 'on a journey' I'd enjoy LP's example.
