I know you Americans take your ketchup very seriously ;-)

I like Marie Callender's, their food is almost like real food, but I haven't seen the meatloaf.

I also like mayo on fries. Maybe I'm not really American. Except I also like Malt Vinegar on fries. It's also good on fried fish so it might not be bad on fried chicken, never tried it.

See Stan can still be friends with us, even though we use mustard. Bwahahaha

Sasha,

Being a reformed Marylander I am sure you have had malt vinegar on crabs.

Actually Stan, I haven't! When did that get started??? It sounds good. I feel do deprived!

I'm trying to think of any use for ketchup.... hmmm.... no, ketchup has absolutely no use.

Wait, no! It does have a use, mixed in with the Worcestershire sauce, Tabasco and egg yolk on a steak tartare.

Ketchup is a must for Cocktail Sauce which is a must for Shrimp Cocktail, as well as other dishes. I like my steak tartare with just an egg on it, thank you very much.

Oh, what a dreary steak tartare that must be!

on a different subject: the French word for old-fashioned is "vieillot."

Not in all contexts, Kerouac. Not surprisingly. It's quite unusual for a word in one language to fill exactly all the slots and only those slots that a particular word in another language fills.

"La cuisine viellote", for example, would mean what battybilly thought "la cuisine à l'ancienne" meant, "the old-fashioned kitchen". "Old fashioned cooking" or "old-fashioned dishes" could be translated "la cuisine à l'ancienne."

But your French is better than mine, so you probably knew that.

Combined ketchup and French's yellow mustard is good on french fries.

Oh - and squirted all over a hot dog too. Bring it on ! !
