How about mayonnaise on chips? Far better than ketchup.....
Guys, guys! Please don't panic! It's perfectly okay to put mustard on cold meatloaf if it's French's mustard. And of course, if you have fries with ketchup on the side it's even more American and you're truly okay.
I wouldn't put ketchup on a hotdog either, btw.
I remember ordering a wurst of some sort from a street vendor in Munich, and being startled when I was asked if I wanted mustard or ketchup.
Ketchup on meatloaf sandwich, if you please. But I put both ketchup & mustard on hamburgers.
Looks like meatloaf sandwich is going upscale.
The Meatloaf Sandwich is made with naturally raised angus beef, served on a Collinsville Baking Company focaccia roll, with uncured nitrite-free bacon, tomato & brown sugar glaze, mayo and thinly sliced red onion.
Homemade chipotle meatloaf on Texas toast with romaine lettuce, tomatoes, applewood smoked bacon and chipotle mayo
Made from lean ground beef and our own oatmeal stout. Two thick slices served warm with spent-grain rolls, honey butter, our Bourbon BBQ sauce and your choice of side item.
Even Marie Callender's (a west coast chain that would be right up Manch's alley) has to go fancy: Meatloaf on Grilled Parmesan Sourdough. Our original recipe piled high with lettuce, tomato and mayonnaise.
lucapal, lucapal. We have so much to teach you about being an American. You will always stand out as a tourist if you continue to eat mustard on meatloaf sandwiches and mayo on fries (first off chips come in a bag and are crispy).
And Vinny, the day there is no ketchup in America will be the day after the total collapse of American civilization as we know it so that would be a pure survival situation and in that case I guess mustard on a meatloaf sandwich would be understandable.
Uncured bacon? Can there be such a thing? Wouldn't that just be sliced pork belly?
Stan....what can I say?
Except that I'm not an American and have never pretended to be one?
I'm happy being a tourist in the USA....as I said,I even liked most of the food. Not up there with my favourite world cuisines (eg Japanese and Malaysian) and not as good as in Italy,but..not bad ;-)
Uncured bacon? Can there be such a thing? Wouldn't that just be sliced pork belly?
"Uncured" is rather a misnomer, because the bacon is cured, using brines that don't contain the synthetic preservatives sodium nitrite or sodium nitrate. Often celery powder or celery juice (high in natural nitrates)is added to the brine. Sugar may also be used as a preservative.
Uncured bacon has a shorter shelf life.
