Our family used to travel with rum in carry-ons until the airlines came up with their draconian anti-liquids rules...

"Venezuelan rums are arguably the best in the world"

Abject nonsense!

Copperspoon...

When were you in Venezuela...? Where did you go...? Which rums did you sample....?

difficult to get outside Australia, but the standard fare in Australia and my personal favourite is Bundaberg Rum I suspect that is because I was weaned on it though and not because of its exceptionally fine characteristics.

The Venesolano Rums I sampled were all bought in nearby Colombia-Venezuela was judged too dangerous to travel in.

So the sample may have been smaller than I liked and the Venesolano product was definitely superior to the Colombian but overall was unexceptional.

Has anyone tried Viejo? The one I drank was Puerto Rican and it was very close to a good brandy but with a subtle difference in flavour.

A friend of mine brought back some rum from Guadeloupe, or Martinique (French Caribbean anyway) and it was some kind of special type that's made from crushed sugarcane juice, not molasses or the end products or sugar production.

Tasted sensational.

"some kind of special type that's made from crushed sugarcane juice"

Without going into painful detail-you have your rum making details twisted.

My arse I do. You're quite chuffed with how much you know about rum aren't you?

Oh well, no sense arguing on the internet. You could be a teetotal transvestite lutheran bishop with a wooden leg for all I know, and i could be a bronzed, well-muscled brazilian porn star for all you know.

meanwhile, what's the name of this different kind of rum from french carib, smarty?
