I was just thinking of Mom's famous turkey pie. She never put veggies in it. Just big chunks of turkey meat and gravy.

It got me wondering, do you ever put veggies in meat pies? I know when you buy them at the store they've got veggies, but I've always thought that was "filler".....you know, cheaper than meat and adds bulk.

Just curious.

Manch, add some chopped carrots, taters, celery, and maybe a little onion. Even mom would like it.

Do you saute the veggies before adding?

I would.

I don't think my mother has ever made a meat pie of any kind.

Oh sorry, that's lie... I do remember a Shepard's Pie at home once. It never appeared again so I guess that meant Daddy didn't like it.

Shepard's pie is the only kind of meat pie we ever had.

I put in carrots, peas or broccoli. They are steamed beforehand, Manch.

The vegetables compliment the flavor of the meat, Manchy. They taste good when sauted first.

Coco.: why effectively cook them before?

Meat pies have meat, and some times with gravy added.
