Tibet stone loach, of no commercial importance, is a common fish in Tajikistan where it is present up to 4500 m altitude. It appears in the littoral of the majority of Pamir lakes. It grows to 19 cm and in high-mountain lakes it matures at a body length of 5.2-6.4 cm. It spawns in May/June at a temperature of 9-12oC. Mature females of 10-14 cm lay 1635-5036 eggs in shallow depressions on sandy substrate and cover the eggs with sand. The fish feed on benthos and plant detritus (Grishchenko, 1983).

I was told that an Irish Pub we frequent had an excellent Shepherd's Pie so I was thinking of trying it the next time we went. But when I looked at the menu I found that it was made with ground beef. I knew that the person who had liked it wasn't a gourmand which is why I checked the menu first. I'm so glad I did.

Wikipedia seems to feel that 'shepherd's pie' and 'cottage pie' are in fact synonyms, and adduces all sorts of sources in support.

Scotch pie, on the other hand, definitely requires mutton.

But, as Chef Ramsey stated - the shepherd in Shepherd's pie alludes to sheep, hence lamb. I think that Wikipedia entry was put in by a restauranteur who wanted to save some time and money by using ground beef instead.

I love the description of Smart Water. "Vapor distilled with electrolytes." Vapor distilled is how you make distilled water of any kind. The water is boiled and the steam is collected and condensed back into water. Not only are many possible germs gotten rid of, but all minerals and other contaminants, as well as any remnants of chlorine and other disinfectants. Distilled water tastes remarkably flat and dull. It's perfect for use in a chemistry lab, because there is nothing in it to interfere with whatever you want other chemicals to do.

SmartWater, according to their own web site, starts with tap water or well water, not some fancy spring, like some natural mineral waters. They filter it, distill it, disinfect with UV light, then add the "electrolytes calcium chloride, magnesium choride, and potassium bicarbonate." Then they do a final purification with ozone.

You can decide if you think it's worth $3. There is evidence that water that contains some electrolytes and sugar (which is not contained in SmartWater) is absorbed faster than plain water. This is usually only of interest to performance athletes or people working in high heat.
