I'm going to stop at the supermarket on the way home to buy something fabulous to cheer me up from my bad day. So far my list includes:

  • chocolate marshmallow ice-cream
  • whatever berries I can find that are in season
  • some smoked salmon, cream cheese and crackers

Any other suggestions?

Hope your supper cheered you up. My ideas for next time --and unfortunately it seems there's always a next time.

A roast chicken. To me it smells wonderful and it's such a luxury to have it already cooked and ready to eat. Plus having the leftovers in the fridge or freezer means I've got great ingredients for another lunch/supper (or two).

Fresh bread of some sort - croissant, naan, or maybe rye bread.

If you're a coffee-drinker, splurge on a favorite or try a new one.

Set a nice table for yourself, too. If you enjoy flowers, get a vase of those. If you use paper napkins/serviettes, get a package of nice ones. Use favorite plates & bowls for the meal and dessert.

Limit the booze since it's a depressant - maybe 1 glass, but not more.

Take your initial estimate, double that and add 20 percent.
It always takes more time and money than you think it should.

I can still have booze, right Stan? I contemplated getting some Popeyes Chicken for lunch today even though I brought mine with me cause I'm having a rough morning so far. But I've been spending way too much money on eating lunch out lately and I'm starting to gain weight today. So I'll probably just drink lots of wine tonight. It may not help on the calories but I found a really good, really cheap wine here in NM so at least it won't cost as much.

Basically, anything that's your favorite is good for a bad day. Sometimes trying something new is but the problem is that that's only good if you like it. If you don't it can make your day seem worse.

You can have all the wine you want. Anyone who like Popeyes can't be all bad. I have been craving it myself but I have really been trying to behave a bit better food wise of late. I am determined to loose 10 more pounds before I go to the doctor in November.

A 2009 NZ Marlborough Estates Sauvignon Blanc.
Apparently one of the finest wines for 2012.
Not too expensive - either.

Thanks for the suggestions. I never made it to the supermarket but went out to the movies with a friend and then home for a Rusty Nail - my mother's cure all drink.

There's a few bottles of Marlborough Savs in my cupboard (Stoneleigh is a particular favourite), I find a nice cup of english breakfast tea more soothing than coffee, and definitely agree on the cooked chicken and nice bread.

I'd try to eat a whole top quality loaf of crusty bread. Just rip the top off and dig in pulling out the soft dough from inside then when it's all gone attack that crispy, fragrant, delicious crust.Yum!

Gosh you can't half tell I'm on a diet can you? Being on a diet is as bad as having a bad day... bad months actually!

Hope your day gets better.
