So, at a Cuban bar in Waterloo a couple of weekends ago (Cubana's - quite nice and just along from the Old Vic if anyone's in the area). As you do, decided we would sample some of these latino cocktails which seem to be the drink of choice of fashionistas the world over these days.

Tried some jugs of:
Daquiri
Mojito
Capirinha
Margarita

Conclusion: All very nice but there's very little difference between them and frankly if you've got some kind of lime juic/sugar/rum/ice concoction you can call it whatever you want. At most one difference between any two - ie add some mint, use Brazillian rum with a funny name, etc.

Overrated?

Food and drink preferences are built on subtle distinctions and perceptions. Those drinks are only overrated if you think so.
If you associate a cocktail with your visit to a tropical clime, it may then be more meaningful to you.

I am surprised you couldn't tell much of a difference between a Daquiri and a Margarita as margaritas do not have rum in them, but tequila, and tend to have salt round the rim.
