Cereals

Interest forums / Get Stuffed

I don’t like cereal that taste/is like eating bark (bran flakes, shreddies, wheatabix) – is there any other cereal out there that is good for you (ie not high in sugar or salt)?

I was quite surprised to find that Special K had more sugar in them than Sugarpuffs last time I looked!

Lifts Leg... PPPFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFTTT!!!

1

Maybe Cheerios?

2

How about good old oat meal?

"I don’t like cereal that taste/is like eating bark(bran flakes, shreddies, wheatabix)"

I would like to get some of that bark.

4

Cocoa Pops are actually not that bad when you read the label. Have you tried toast?

5

I don't know. Aspen bark is pretty tasty.

6

Actually, a good slab o' bark might have better health benefits. Next time read the list of ingredients in that cereal- is there actually any real 'food' in there?

7

Why is it stupid that I want to find a cereal to eat that is healthy but doesn't taste like bark?

8

Don't eat cereal then if it's not nice in your eyes?

9

Why not try dorset cereals - they are musli but with lots of fruit... quite nice but quite expensive - no clue about the sugar content but if its high i'm guessing its cause of all the dried fruit?

10

weetAbix

11

Try those cereals with milk next time Ria.

12

mock, I hate to disagree with you, but I worked in the sodding factory, trust your auntie knighton, there's an A in it. You colonials eat some weird imposter.

how about something different for breakfast? Toast? Bagels? Oatcakes? Left over cold pizza?

13

Guardian is very good and also recommended for diabetics.

14

Grape-Nuts
I don't like them, but Mrs. Anon does.

15

It is called Weet-bix here knighton.

16

#17 00h, Grape-nuts - it's ages since I had them. Don't think I've ever seen them in NZ.

Are they available in Queensland, mockchoc? Getting towards the end of our nightmare year and expect to escape across the ditch in October.

17

No, no Grape-nuts here againaqu.

Good luck with with coming over, I'm off to the Northern Territory next week. Very exciting.

18

I'd rather eat bark than Grape Nuts.

19

mock - I'm married to one of you weird colonial types. I know you call it Weetbix. Doesn't mean you're right though ;)

20

Of course we are right! Long time no chat really darl...

21

I'd rather bark than go nuts.

22

make your own damn cereal, its easy. put some honey on oats with almonds and bake for a bit.
I add pecans, raisins then later, raspberries, bananas, peaches. Yum, I love it for dinner too.

23

Who cares whether it's weetbix or weetabix: it'd still be better to eat shredded newspaper.

I used to make my own bircher muesli: mix a handful or two of wheat bran with a packet of porridge oats and a couple of packets of dried fruit and nuts. Mix together - this is your general muesli mix. I then used to make up some muesli for the week ahead by putting a couple of handfuls of teh general mix into a bowl, grating an apple (including the core coz it's good for you) over it, adding a handful of frozen berries and pouring milk in to cover the mix.

Then each day, you take as much muesli as you want to eat, chop up a banana, add a dollop of yoghurt and a bit of honey (if it's not sweet enough) and hey presto!
