I cut it in half and baked it. Is it better if there is butter or spices on it? What do you suggest? I've never cooked it myself before.

Slice it, peel it, marinate it in soft brown sugar and freshly squeezed orange juice for an hour or more. Then fry in butter until golden brown all over. Very very nice (especially with Duck).

Forgot to add - put marinade liquid into pan for last part of cooking process and pour over the squash when served.
