What is Jock Bumnuts? I know of nearly every other dish mentioned and have never heard of this.

A few years ago, my brother & I did an African safari that required a layover in London both coming & going. I'd been there several times; he'd never been there.

The two things that got him were fish & chips and the full British breakfast, especially the bacon. American bacon is all streaky rashers. He fell in love with the back bacon. Not so much with the beans & tomatoes.

He also had a steak and ale pie that he thought was OK, but figured he'd want a second try, maybe at a better restaurant.

For someone who's travelled to the UK many times over the years,it's very sad that the (in)famous British cuisine is disappearing.
Fish & chips is hard to get. It's curries and kebaps all over. ..
Pub lunches are served in 'lunch time' only. If you're hungry in wrong time, you've got to eat curry, kebap, or pasta.
Small towns and villages in the countryside could be still unaffected, and a good bet.
You've got to love the old pubs, if you just leave London.

Thanks Vinny! Maybe I should start a thread asking for oddly named (or humorously named) British foods! :)

OPer: things that are quintesentially BRITISH (Emphasis added.)

DD:
+Curried Chicken and Chips
Cold Pork Pies
Jock Bumnuts
Bubble and Squeak+

It's rare that I have the temerity to take DD tae task - but:

Cold Pork Pies (English, not British)

Jock Bumnuts (Never heard of them - almost certainly derogatory since Jock+ is often used this way, +Jock plus almost always; and Vinny is hardly one to rely on for soundness.)

Bubble and Squeak (English, not British)

However, if our resident mutt changes his Curried Chicken and Chips to Chicken Tikka Masala with rice and chips, he will be giving the best answer to the OPer - not least because the sales of the immediately afore-noted exceed that of fish'n'chips and remain the best-selling zapable meal in Britain.
