Gap Year & Round the World Travel

So it's coming to that time of year when the best of lists are starting to appear such as LP's own list (http://www.lonelyplanet.com/best-in-travel) looking at the places to go to in 2015. I'm just curious, do these lists influence you at all in your choice of travel destinations?

Having been stricken by a severe sense of wanderlust, I am planning to take a year off and travel RTW. This would be taking place in Oct. Nov of 2015, and I hope to have approx. 8-10k saved.
