Gap Year & Round the World Travel

Beating dead horse, I know, but...

2 ppl, budget travelers, not many tours, going to: fiji or tahiti, NZ, Thailand, cambodia, laos, vietnam, China (4 wks from south to beijing, then to lhasa and over the mtns), nepal, india, sri lanka.

2000USD a month enough for both of us (not including flights)?

As i am new to travelling is there anybody who could give me advice to where is best to stop, which way round to go and which times of the year are better???

I am thinking of visiting Asia, Oz and NZ, would also like to fit in Africa and China and then finally finish in the US. Is this realistic?? I have looked on some websites and it seems difficult to do all of them on one rtw ticket?!
