Hey everybody,

I apologize if a thread like this already exists but I would like to hear your suggestions. My friend and I (two female students from EU) are planning a trip to Cental and South America (Caribbean? - no idea yet). Here are the facts:

budget: 9000€ = $14,223 each
time: we're not on a time limit but we'd leave Europe end of September/ beginning of October
volunteering: yes, any time, any place - any suggestions? - if possible, no camps that you have to pay for

Our initial plan was…

As part of my year-long trip I'm considering volunteering for a month, or perhaps 2, with IFRE (http://www.ifrevolunteers.org/) somewhere in Asia. They offer programs in India, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Cambodia and China. This won't be my only time spent in Asia, I hope to be for a few months after I finish volunteering.

Has anyone had experience with this organization? Or any experiences volunteering in Asia? I don't want to impose my presence on a community that doesn't want me there and I…

I recently returned from a 15-month trip around the world, and am now unfortunately back spending my days behind a desk in the working world. My new job allows me three weeks of vacation per year, which I can save up and combine with another year's vacation time. So, I'd really like to do a six-week trip somewhere in Asia, and I was looking for your suggestions on where to go.

Some things to consider:
1. My brother and sister-in-law live in Hong Kong, so I will want to start/finish there, but I…

Hi,
I wondered if anyone else was going to the Lion Rehabilitation project in Zimbabwe Midlands? I am due to go for 4 weeks in June. I'm 27, planning on quitting my job after 7 years and hopefully get this project done, and maybe do some travelling/join some kind of tour afterwards. Very nervous about going on my own, and wondered if anyone else was going at the same time, or was maybe planning on doing some of the Dragoman tours around July time? Lots going through my head at the moment, even…

I'm thinking of teaching abroad for a short while to get some foreign language experience at the same time. Does anyone know of any good courses or places to i) find opportunities to teach, mainly around Eastern Europe or Asia and ii) qualifications to get in the UK which will help me get a place abroad (aside from a degree in English etc)? I am a native Brit, born and bred.

Hey everyone

I am in my 30 female novice solo traveler. I am about to embark on a lifetime dream to travel around the world for one year. I know few countries that I definitely would like to visit and to spend more time and other that I just want to go transit.

I would like to start from India, then Nepal where I would like spend couple of months, do as much trekking as I can and, possibly, do some volunteering, if I find there and then. From there go back to India, fly to Bangkok and explore…

My brother is getting married in Montreal next year and seeing as I am having to fly over there I am thinking about using it as an excuse to go an a big trip!

The idea that I am thinking of doing is travelling all the way from Montreal down to the Southern tip of South America - Ushuaia (avoiding flying if poss). I am not sure of the best route to go, particulary through the USA/Canada part, or even how long something like this would take! Does anyone have any suggestions?

I recently came across a website which impressed me. Believe me, a website that can impress me with the depth of its information doesn't come along very often. But this one seems to cover pretty much everything a neophyte traveller needs to think about and know about. If every newbie who posts here were to read it first, there would be a lot less repeat questions being asked.

Take a look, if you're a newbie it will answer questions for you I'm sure. If you're an old hand, perhaps you will…
