Hi Guys,

I'm new here, and new to the whole RTW travelling. I head off in September on my voyage and I have been getting all my stuff together (never knew how much i'd need to do before I even leave) and im literally counting down the days.

I was just wondering if any of you out there could give me some helpful tips to help me on my way, be it something to do/get before hand or en-route. Hearing from people that have done this and know what they are talking about is something you cant get in a…

I am hoping to travel from Beijing to St.Petersburgh on the TS sometime later this year, probably October time - i want to wait until all the Olympic stuff has finished. Is this time of the year ok to make this trip?

I have no idea where to start when it comes to pricing or sourcing tickets - i've looked up a few websites and books but i'm still non the wiser. Can anyone suggest the best way to go about this?

I watched a programme on the TS and it made the journey out to be inexpensive but…

I am planning a RTW trip from July 2008 - January 2009. I have wanted to travel for an extended period for a long time now and go on RTW. I am in a job transition, my finances are stable, etc. - so it is the right time to take this trip. Now...for the family part...I consider myself fairly close to my family - see them regularly, always spend holidays with them - however, I feel guilty I am leaving them (especially that I will be gone for the holidays). My mom puts on a guilt trip when I mention…

Hi all,

I'm a 20 year old college student (with an ISIC card) who is taking a year off to do an RTW trip. I would REALLY like to be gone for 10-11 months but I have a limited budget. I also would like this to be more or less a veritable "world" tour but I am not going to Australia (or Antarctica, for that matter). Ideally I'd be leaving the beginning of October and coming back mid July or maybe even later, depending on my residual funds.

I'd like to finalize these plans before OneWorld reduces…

Airtreks is quoting me about $4500 USD for the following itinerary:

NYC > Cape Town

Kilimanjaro > Cairo

Istanbul > Bangkok

Singapore > Cairns

Sydney > NYC

However, due to flexibility, I would prefer to avoid a RTW ticket. Can anyone estimate how much more it should cost me if I bought my tickets on the go. Also, to those who have bought on the go, is it cheaper to do it through a travel agent, online, or directly through the airlines?

Thanks in advance!

Our travel style is to stay in a city or town for some weeks or months, explore out of there, and then move on. Besides local newspapers, we're looking for good resources from which to locate weekly apartment rentals, family stays, cabins, etc, while on the road (i.e. websites, call-in systems, etc). Typically we start looking for the next place a week or two before leaving the current place (not planning on making reservations months ahead of time).

We"ll be traveling through S. America, S…

My cousin and I intent to travel to Sydney from London without flying. We woud use any type of transpost possible except planes. Mostly trains, but obviously a couple of ferry journeys will be needed. Also buses, taxis, hitchhiking ect.
We are planning the trip for around december 2009 and dont really have any time constraints although we would hope it to take around 6 months so we can spend the rest of our time traveling australia.
I have come up with a…

What has been your favorite $30/day experience? Let me qualify this...staying in a clean basic private room, eating in local restaurants for dinner, having a beer, seeing a few sites, soaking it in. For example, a cave in Goreme, Turkey; a guest house in Ko Lanta, Thailand.
