Hi all

I posted a few times in here before my RTW trip and thought it would be good to offer my thoughts on my first month and any advice to anyone who is yet to go. I'll try to make this relatively broad so as to be helpful.

So on the 6th of September I jetted off to Beijing. I'd been planning the trip for over 6 months and had been really looking forward to it until around a week before I set off. That's when reality kicked in. I had left my job and was going away for months. My main concern…

Hi all

I'm going globe trotting next year, hopefully for a few years, and am looking for suggestions on how to best use my time to make the trip more meaningful. I have limited resources but plenty of time and flexibility! Anyone who is interested in meeting along the way, please comment and let me know what you're planning! I'm very flexible on plans and dates and am just looking to make the most of this :)

Hi

I have been thinking about going travelling for a while now and have finally decided that I am going for it and plan to set off in September next year. I think i will have enough money saved by then. I plan on going for a year or slightly longer if my money lasts. I have signed up here after reading some threads and thought you could give me some useful input in to my planning and point out any mistakes i may have made. This will be my first trip away and i'm going on my own, so i'm unsure…

Hey everyone!

So I finally started my trip around the world, and after six weeks in Ecuador I´m used to the black smoke producing buses, the heavy sun and rain, the pickpockets and thiefs, the kamikaze-taxi´s and eating rice everyday :D ... and I´ve started my volunteering project at CENIT, an organisation that works with the families of the market here in Quito.

If anyone would find it fun (or useful?) to read about my experiences as a gringa volunteer living and working in Quito: here´s a…

This is my first post since registering on Lonely Planet and I'm not sure where to start except at the beginning. I have been a devoted fan of Rick Steves for the past seven years and used his guide books, DVDs and Traveler's Helpline to independently plan three trips for my wife and her elderly mother to Italy, Scotland and England, and we just returned from two weeks in France. The information and assistance I have received has been terrific, but this time somewhere in between Normandy and…

(couldn't pick which branch to post....)

Looking to go somewhere in Feb next year, probably for 4 weeks or so. Have pretty much a blank canvas, so looking for a few ideas.

In what part of the world is February the best time of year to visit? (it could be because of climate, festivals, events....)

A vague question i know, I'm thinking it would be a good time climate wise in countries like Iran. Just putting it out there for a left field idea....

My boyfriend and I are planning on travelling to South America and working our way up through Central America to North America, we have sufficient funds but are on a fairly cheap budget, and we are planning to go away for approx 8 months. Ideally we would like to spend our time in Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, a small amount of time in Brazil for carnival. We will obviously avoid the Darien Gap so we're thinking of flying direct up to Honduras or somewhere nearby and heading up through Mexico to the…

Hi, I'm Shane!

This is my first post! I actually just joined. I'm 32, and I live in the states. Ive suddenly realized time is one day going to run out, so I have decided to do some things I wont be able to do forever. Ive decided to join the ranks and find the courage to abandon my life as I know it, and set out for something greater then my small insignificant existence. I will be setting out alone, and to be honest right now I'm a little scared. Ive never done anything like this before, but I…
