I was hoping to get some advise on the best ways to travel from Kathmandu to Beijing.

Ideally i would like to travel from Kathmandu through Tibet and onto Xian via train.

However there seem to be quite a few obstacles in doing this route.

Has anyone successful done this journey on a low budget ?

Thank You in advance for any advise.

I've done it in the other direction.......that was a long time ago though! That was all by bus/truck,apart from the part between Beijing and Xian (train).

Don't know how possible it is these days.....

I don't know much about the train from Kathmandu to Xi'an but I have taken it from Xi'an to Beijing.

I just wanted to let you know that If you can, spend a few days in Xi'an as I thought the place was one of the nicest cities in China.

Good luck

Have you got the permit for Tibet already? You must get one if you are foreigner who willing to into Tibet.

I heard its not very easy to get the permit. And you must follow traveling agency.

I think I've already answered this on another branch. I suggest you have a look on NE Asia Branch for posts on Tibet.

#2, I hope you're not advertising for a travel agency. Not permitted to do that here.

#3, you dont know much about the train from Kathmandu to Xian because there isnt one. The train however does start in Lhasa.

#4, definitely NOT difficult to get the permit-- you must go through a travel agency.
