Hi,

Myself and my fiance had planned to go on a round the world trip on our honeymoon over a 2 and a half month period (summer 2014) using the One World round the world ticket. We run our own business and have a cat and dog so came to the conclusion it wasn't practical to go away for that length of time.

We are now thinking of only doing Cape Town and South America over a 4-5 week period. We are flexible on the destinations in South America but have thought Buenos Aires, Santiago, Columbia and Lima would be nice.

I was wondering if it would now be best to just book all the flights separately? Or are there other tickets similar to a Round the World ticket that allow quite a bit of flexibility but don't require you to go the whole way round the world?

Thanks!!

Is there any reason why you must go to CT?

Depending where you are starting from,it could be a long way (and very expensive ) to go all the way to South Africa to see one city.

Your SA countries are already very far apart, without trying to fit one on another continent into a month long trip.......

On your SA destinations....where in Colombia do you want to go?

Even if you choose one city there, that will mean 4 different cities in 4 parts of SA...you would need to fly between them, and that will also be expensive.

What is your budget?

Why have you chosen these cities? Lima is far from the most popular destination in Peru,Santiago is (IMHO) nothing special.

BA is a great place to visit, and Colombia a great country (depending on your interests, your likes and dislikes etc.)

There is no specific reason other than we really want to go :) We plan to do the Garden route. It is kind of the main place we want to go to.

We would be starting in Glasgow/London.

To be honest we haven't really looked in to the South America destinations and we are really flexible with them. The places I mentioned were stops that worked well when we were initially planning a round the world trip (direct flights etc).

BA is actually the one we would most like to go to as we have had a lot of good reports from friends.

Peru we don't need to do but thought that Machu Picchu would be good to see.

We were also thinking maybe 4 to 5 stops in total so about a week in each place.

Where are you starting from? That might determine whether it's better to get individual flights or a RTW.

Since it's your honeymoon and you don't seem to be particularly price-sensitive, I'd start by thinking of places you REALLY want to go, rather than places that are easy to get to. So it sounds like Cape Town and Buenos Aires are must sees. Then if you want to see Machu Picchu, fly to Cusco, not Lima.

I'd allow 2 weeks for S Africa if you want to see Cape Town and drive the Garden Route, and that would give you time to visit a few other palces such as a game park and the Drakensberg. One week in and around BA, one week Cusco, then pick somewhere else for the last week.

It sounds as though it would be a good idea for you to get hold of some guide books and find some places that interest you.

As Luca has already asked what is your budget?

I hope it is very good because what you are planning to do will be very expensive. If money is no issue then go for it, but personally I think I would just stick to either South America or Southern Africa. If your budget isn't very good you will probably be forced to do this anyway.

OK...if you want to have a decent look at CT and do the Garden Route, you will need a couple of weeks there...even a bit more if you are interested in doing a safari while you are in South Africa.

Then..as above....you will need to get to South America. From South Africa that will be really expensive....wherever you go in the continent. And you will need to fly from one place to another!

If you can cope with £3000 plus(per person) just for flights,it can be done.

A couple of things that might be important for you..

First,it will be winter there when it is summer in Europe..this is particularly important for CT and the Garden Route (weather can be pretty bad, lots of rain) and it will be fairly cold in BA as well.

Second...if you want to do a safari in South Africa you will need to add a couple of flights...say to Nelspruit (for Kruger) or Upington (for Kgalagadi)...so allow more time and more money!

Thanks everyone. Think we will need to rethink this trip and decide on one place :)
