Hi All

Well Im just about to book a RTW ticket after talking about it for three years and would be very grateful if anyone out there could pass on any advice they have from their experiences based on where Im going, places to stay and things to do etc.

Mid Oct - Mid Jan Bangkok, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Bali, Asia in general as much as possible
Jan - Jul Oz....Perth, Darwin, Alice Springs, West Coast, Sydney, Melbourne
Jul - Aug New Zealand
Aug- Sept South America, Chile, Peru

Im worried about how much time to spend in each place, especially New Zealand and South America as I will have passed Oz at that stage and working will be finished, so Ill be left to survive on whatever money I have left. How expensive are these places?

Any opinions would be great or even if you think there is a better route Id be glad to hear it.

Thanks!

Hi!
New Zealand can be quite a cheap place to visit if you are on a budget, especially if you have a youth hostel card.
There are lots of activites to do that are free with all the beautiful scenery, especially if you are the out-doorsy type. Just remember that july-august is NZ's winter soif you are planning on taking advantage of the beutiful ski-fields you may want to plan that into your budget.
For things to do in NZ try this website: http://www.aatravel.co.nz/101-must-dos-for-kiwis/<BR>It is speciafically for kiwis but it has heaps of great things to see and do.

Hi SLenehan

Am abit like you, in that there is soooo much info out there its hard to know where to start. Ive just bought my ticket for my trip yesterday. Personally i think the route that you have chosen is great. Although like me you'll be in NZ for their winter (although i love skiing so its really a bonus)!! I have just finished a fantastic book called 'First time around the world' and it gave me a great insight into what to expect etc. Asian and South Amercian countires are relatively cheap esp for digs, and Oz and NZ have good reasonable hostel digs that are easy on the pocket. Dont know if this is useful - other branches may help you out with individual areas though.

As for time am guessing it depends wot ur into, personally i have allowed 4 weeks to get me from Vancouver to Mexico City and back up to LA. Mates who have been travelling before have given me advice, that the place will impact on me as soon as arrive, and if am not feeling the love for the place head on as soon as.

As you have prob guessed am heading west instead of east, ive got 3 and half months career break, and after i leave LA am spending a week in the Pacific Island - Fiji, then 8 weeks in NZ arriving 1 Jun 08, then onto Bankgkok for just under 2 weeks.

Dont worry enjoy the whole experience and uv loads of time to swat up on it!!

Best wishes
e

Thanks to everyone for their replies. Its so true that there is so much info out there that its easy to get overwhelmed by the whole thing.
One piece of advice which sounds good and easy to follow is from Missie 07, if I dont feel the love for the place, then move on! Im booking the ticket tomorrow, so after that Ill just have to wing it and hope for the best, after all the flights and times can be changed.

Good luck Missie07 on your trip too!
