Oh, also if you are quitting your job and will have to look for employment when you return, update your resume/CV before you leave.

  • the weather at the destination at the time of travel, eg. avoid traveling at the height of the monsoon or typhoon season.

  • check if you can suspend services at home such as land lines, cable, etc.

  1. Time to travel (based on seasons, weather, activities, festivals, etc)
  2. Warranties for electrical items, eg. laptops, phones, cameras, etc. try to get international warranties for these items, especially if they aren't covered by your insurance, etc.
  3. Journal / Blog. Decide if you want to blog to let your friends and family know what you've been up to. set a blog up before hand (on somewhere like blogger or on your own web host) or if you want to keep a private journal instead/aswell, then buy are few notebooks before hand.
  4. People at home. Make sure you've got someone trustworthy at home where you can send things like back-up CDs of photographs, passport and document photocopies, etc.

What are you going to do the stuff you leave behind: personal effects, cars, housing etc. - store it or sell it? Rent the house out or leave it empty ?
