Hi guys,

I am a medical doctor, planning to go on a RTW trip/ taking a gap year, starting September 2009. While on the road I would like to volunteer from time to time, either in my own profession or any else. While searching the internet I mostly ran into programs that you have to pay lots of money for volunteering with them. During this trip I am not looking into long-term programs like "MSF" or "Cap Anamur", just programs that allow you to volunteer, let's say between two to six week at a time.

Is there a restless MD out there who has done anything comparable and is ready to help me with some info? Any news will be appreciated.

Thanx.

I'm having a similar problem... I'm a teacher setting off on a RTW journey and I thought I'd stop and volunteer along the way (my hubby-to-be is also a teacher). The only programs that we can find want US to pay THEM. Uhhh.... I am not going to pay someone else to allow me the privilege of teaching impoverished youth. I can do that right here in NYC and get paid for it. If anyone has any tips on finding REAL volunteer gigs (and not people who are just trying to rob us of our hard earned $$$), I'd love the info.... Thanks.
