I'm heading off very shorty for a year out. I'm arriving in sydney and just taking it form there. I would also like to see a lot of south east asia. I'd probably like to work in australia for 6-7 months and then travel around for 4 months. Would anyone have any advice on where i should go or what i should see. Thanks for your help!

There is so much to see and do... would'nt you be better off reading more about the country in a guidebook, internet and so on to find out what you would like to do?
NZ is definitly worth a trip! =)

7 months would be ages in Australia...but if you're working then I guess you need to stay that long for the money. Otherwise.. Australia can be done in 3-4 months or so if you really want to see all the major things.
Definitely make it to Thailand. And if your budget stretches a little more, why not even Japan?
NZ where I live is definitely worth at least a few weeks ...
For your SE Asia leg, there are literally thousands of options. With four months it would be a good idea to keep things flexible - don't try and stick to a rigid itinerary, but rather take things as they come. Stay longer in places you like, move on more quickly from those you don't, and be prepared to change your plans depending on who you meet and what you feel like doing!
One starting rough itinerary that would take in a lot of the area could be as follows:
Fly to Bali, spend a week or two there (and/or on nearby Gili Islands).
Overland through Java to Jakarta
Fly Jakarta to Singapore or KL
Overland through Malaysia and into southern Thailand
Spend a month or so island-hopping in Thailand
Overland to Bangkok
Fly to Chiang Mai, then overland to Laos at Huay Xai, Mekong river boat to Luang Prabang, road to Vientiane and re-enter Thailand.
Cross into Cambodia, travel through the country via Siem Reap and Phnom Penh.
Cross into Vietnam (be sure to obtain your visa in advance)
Travel north through Vietnam to Hanoi
A week in Hanoi and around (Sapa, Halong Bay) then either fly to Hong Kong or go overland
Flight back to the UK from Hong Kong.

Define help. Do you want your trip planned for you?
"Would anyone have any advice on where i should go or what i should see."
I have no advice for you since I have no idea of where you would like to go or what you would like to see.
