Hey there, I'm searching for some good reads on backpacking and travel stories. Any good books or blogs out there? I'm planning a trip for Septemer to SA and I'm looking for literature to live through vacariously in the meantime and to get some ideas for my own travel. I tried looking through the Lonely Planet blogs was really overwhelmed. Just looking for stories from people currently on the road, preferably young and on a budget. Thanks!

When you say somneone young, did you mean children? We are a family of 4 about 16 months into a RTW and we keep 2 diaries on our web site, one by the children and one by the adults. As for being a good read, well it was not written to be a trove of information, more for our friends and families to keep a track of where we are and what we are up to, but you get 2 perspectives on what we have seen and done. We are also on a budget, and are managing to keep it around 40 to 80 GBP per day as an average for us all, to give you an idea of costs I put a sum up of the countries costs on the end of that countries diary on the adults diary section.

Happy planning for your adventure, South America was our favourite place on our trip so far (and the cheapest).

Here's my list of top RTW reads:
Erik Trinidad - best read and he still travels off and on
Conor Grennan - although he's not travelling anymore, his old trip is a very entertaining read
Megan - Megan is between trips
Go Backpacking - Dave's currently travelling

Plus, http://www.bootsnall.com/ is full of travelogues.

That should keep you busy for a while.

I guess I should mention I'm also writing up my 2002 trip with my family on my blog (link in my sig). I was only 11-12 at the time, so I guess that classifies as young!

Well, I'm definitely not the most exciting writer out there, but my blog in my signature below might give you some ideas on what there is to see in South America, assuming that is that the SA in your post doesn't stand for South Africa or somewhere else. The blog is from a two month trip that I took two summers ago.
