Hi guys,

I am thinking about taking a year out and working/travelling around the east coast of Oz. However, I have a few concerns and hopefully you knowledgeable people can help!

Money;

How much money would you suggest taking initially? Money is a bit tight at the moment so I am hoping to get enough together to cover flights, visa, jabs etc for the first few months, then live off anything I earn after that. I have been told £3,000 by some people, £5,000 by others - what would you suggest?

Work;

I assume there are millions of people that move to Oz with a WHV each month all looking for work. That being said, is it pretty difficult to get a job? I am happy to do anything that gives me enough money to continue living there.

What sort of jobs would be best to start off and get my feet on the ground out there? I have been advised to do any sort of farm work/fruit picking. I would actually enjoy this if I am outside - I don't care how long the days are. If farm/fruit picking is the best way to go, how difficult is it to get your foot in the door? Is it possible to get arrangements in place before moving out there? I have also been told about bar work, but question the difficulties obtaining such thing due to the high amount of people looking for work. Any advice on getting a bar job?

Travelling;

Whilst out in Oz I am looking to go down the eastern coast from Cairns to Sydney. Like I said, I would like to do this over a year whilst working etc. I would like to know if anybody has experience of flying to SE Asia whilst working out in Oz? I have always wanted to visit Vietnam and Thailand, but RWT is looking too expensive without working my way around.
I would really appreciate any advice/tips guys,

Thank you in advance.

PS - please delete my other post, it was in the wrong section I believe.

I would be somewhat hesitant traveling to Australia and depending on having to work in order to fund your travels. Australia, Sydney in particular, is very expensive. But it sounds like you will have a blast if everything works out. Just remember to have a resettlement fund for when you decide to come back home. Best of luck!
