Hey everyone! I'm looking for some people to travel/meet up with. I know it's a bit early but honestly I'm not sure when to start planning and I want to figure things out before school gets too hectic.
So I'll be 18 at the time of travel so that age group would be ideal but I've always gotten along with older people so feel free to message me if you're a bit older!

I'm most likely going to start in Athens and just work my way up, I really want to go through Croatia as well as go to Venice, Rome and Paris. Greece and Italy are musts but I'm open to suggestions :)

If this sounds good, facebook is probably the best way to contact me.

You might want to post this on the 'Travel Companions' branch as well.......

And keep in mind that travelling can be hard work when it's done with people you love (family/friends) so to travel with strangers for 2 months would be a nightmare for me to say the least.
If you plan to stay in hostels, which I'll recommend, then you'll meet plenty other single travellers you can hook up with for a day or a week.

But you can easily get rid of strangers if you get fed up with them, unlike with family. :-)

That's true Balkanexpress. There have certainly been times where I wished I was away on my own instead of being together with husband and children ;-)
Luckily my husband understand my need for solitude so I once in a while get to spend an afternoon on my own.

Oh yeah I for sure want time alone. I kind of just meant like if anyone is going to be in some of these places we can meet up and stuff!

I wouldn't worry about trying to meet people on thorntree on the road as it were. You would have to be fairly lucky to find someone in exactly the same place as you at the same time on thorntree, and if they aren't in the same place why would you change your plans for someone you have never met?

You will meet so many people in, of a variety of ages, in hostels.

In terms of your route it actually works quite well.

I would think something like:

Athens - Lake Ohrid (Macedonia) -Belgrade (via Skopje) - Sarajevo - Mostar - Dubrovnik - Islands - Split - Rome (via Ancona ferry) - Florence - Venice - Paris (fly Venice to Paris)

This allows 5 days per location so more realistically 3 days in each when you consider travel days. You really wouldn't want more than 12 locations for 60 days. As you may have worked out I love the Balkans, Macedonia and Bosnia & Herzegovina particularly.

Oh and don't get a Eurail pass for this route as you will use bus/coach as much as the train, which in Italy is cheap for non high speed services anyway.

I'm planning a Europe trip around the same time with some similar destinations in mind. I'm thinking more May/June though. Maybe some of July though I'm not sure yet. Haven't figured out itinerary or anything yet but I'm sure I'll hit Italy, France, and probably Croatia. We can keep in touch if you like and send each other itinerary ideas and such.

Have a great trip. I'm sure you're family is providing you with more warnings than you care to hear, about a girl/woman just turning 18 traveling alone through Europe. I'd add one more, in that I've seen aggressive guys lure girls into going alone with them by "guilt-tripping" them, implying you're in some way narrow-minded, a racist, or whatever, by not accepting their invitations. There are also local guys who are utterly sophisticated in playing a game to attract foreign tourists, making it seem as if this is the first time they're trying it. They know just where to hang out and just what to wear and say to attract naive foreigners looking for "adventure."
