Estimating Cost Per Day by Country

There isn't a definate resource or anything, but i can estimate a few for you (In Australian Dollars):

New Zealand - $75-100/Day
Australia - $75-100/Day
Maldives - ???
India - $30-45/Day
Nepal - $50-60/Day
Tibet/China - $30-100/Day (Certain places like Hong Kong, for example, will be much more expensive).
Thailand - $30-45/Day
Cambodia - $25-40/Day
Vietnam - $30-50/Day
Mongolia - ???
Russia - $75-100/Day
Lithuania - $50+/Day
Poland - $50/Day
Prague - ???
Italy - $80/Day

This is low-medium range backpacker style activities/accom/food/etc.

That's fine. Just remember, some of those estimates could be stretched 10 or 20 dollars below, if you stuck to a really stringent budget, but you could also easily blow them with lots of activities (say, new zealand for example - activities galor!)

Here's my finance page. Beware of the first trip which was 2004/2005, prices will have gone up. I didn't travel the cheapest possible but it was on the low end everywhere besides Vietnam.

Just one major caveat -- a "typical" budget is very, very different from one person to another. One person might be able to stay in the cheapost possible hostel, eat only grocery store food, and rarely visit a museum. #1's estimates in Europe are for a slightly higher level budget than that -- a decent hostel, cheap food and few splurges on museums and the like. Other people want to visit every tourist site and museum, eat a sit-down dinner, go out drinking regularly, and stay at a decent hotel with a private room. If that's your level, you'll have to budget accordingly.

For example, the budget listed for Poland is the equivilent of 30 Euros. That's a pretty tight budget, with little room for splurges. (Especially in Krakow.) I've known many backpackers who could live like that for a year with no problem. But I've also met backpackers who wouldn't even consider being in a place like Poland without spending 50 Euros a day or so as a drop-dead, bare-bones budget.

One more piece of advice -- you might hear that you could get around in Poland, for example, for 30 Euros a day. Just to account for the unexpected expenses that are inevitable, you'll probably want to add 20 or 30 percent to your estimates just so you don't run out of money. You're almost certainly going to spend more than you expect to spend.

remember the things that cost you are:
accomodation...sleep as cheap as possible.tent and hostel.
transport as above..check out bus and train prices.sleep on overnight train to save money(I cant but others do)
food and drink
presents and souveners.
In AE Sia its not so bad.but in Europe it gets expensive.
entrance fees to galleries and sites etc can be expensive(even in India)..look for ones that are free and others that are free on certain days.

A reasonable budget is $200 US per day. As an average it will work fine around the world. Of course as daveelmstrom suggests, different strokes for different folks. If you want 5 star, you'll have to up that number.
