Camelbak Backpack or messenger bag for a daypack?

Interest forums / Gap Year & Round the World Travel

I leave on my first RTW tomorrow!! and I am confused about what kind of bag to take for my daypack?

(guess i am just too overwhelmed with other stuff that small things are confusing me ;)

I wish I could help. I have two weeks to go and I have decided on a soft small guitar case (and spanish guitar) as my daypack-substitute.

And I am totally confused about ponchos... if I had a penny for every minute I lie awake trying to work out if a poncho really is... Oh... how about buying a daypack later (and much cheaper) when you need it, locally, that will help you acculturate:)

Enjoy yourself!

Take the messenger bag.

Unless you are doing a LOT of trekking, forget the camelback. But a nice daypack is essential...I would pass on the messenger bag. Several times I have used my daypack as a pack while doing 2-4 day trips...leaving the big bag behind. Would have never worked with a messenger bag.

I have a very lightweight North Face rain jacket. It was not cheap, but it is awesome. Much better than a poncho...and I have a cover for the backpack...but if it is raining that much, I tend to wait it out rather than walk around...

Most stuff you can buy just about anywhere...so bring as little as possible. Clothes are cheap! Cameras and iPods are the exception...
