I'm trying to visit Cairo after India, and the Star Alliance trip planner says there's no flights from India to Cairo. Is this true? Is it really that restrictive?

Am I going to have to pass on Egypt this time around?

EDIT: It looks like I'm having the same problem with Lima too. Only Air Canada flies there and you can only get there from Toronto.

With alliance-based RTWs you can only fly where the alliance members have service. Of course you can fly from India to Cairo; you'll just have to connect through some hub - Vienna for example, or Singapore, Zürich or Frankfurt.

Star Alliance is pretty hopeless in South America since their main South American member, Varig (Brazil) went tango a couple of years ago.

I decided that Cairo & Lima are must see locations for me and I do not want to go to Vienna, so I am probably going to go with Oneworld Explorer. I also like Oneworld's travel planner better too. Way easier interface to work with.

Thanks for the help!

Have you looked at buying one way tickets as you go - might be cheaper (or the same price) as a RTW ticket but you'll have more control.

I used the StarAlliance planner to figure out a route and then double checked what the ticket total would be if i bought them along the way. It's $600 cheaper than the RTW ticket I was planning on buying.
