buying guidebooks along the way

This question gets asked about once a week. Use the search function before posting.

Bottom line, there is no easy universal answer.

Before you presume, I actually did a search, but the answers which I found tended to be country-specific and didn't necessarily cover the countries in which I was going. If you don't know the specific answer to those countries which I asked about, then why bother answering?

It is very easy to get them on the road. do not take all of them. Many hostels in europe have book exchange and you might find one there. There were many used ones in India and SEA. In Vietnam you get Fake Copyed books. Same as the oringinal. But not the most ethical way to get one. we got a SEA in India and in Bangkok there are books every where. you could always tear out the pages that you are going to need out before you leave. Do not buy them in the airport as they will be expensive. Just get them when you land.

Fine, you think you asked a specific question. I think you asked, where can I get guidebooks around the world. You found only country specific answers. I think you should ask only country specific questions on the appropriate branch for the country required.

Bottom line, let's see if you get country specific answers for all the countries you are interested in, from this post. Particularly, answers that don't use words like, 'might' or 'sometimes', etc.

they do way a tonne, every tom, dick and harry travelling will have a guide book just borrwow theirs for a bit read it remember it. very simple

We took the first 5 months worth of guidebooks of our RTW trip with us to start and then had a prepacked batch sent to us in Sicily where we settled for in a cottage for a few weeks. (Obviously, that requires settling for a bit and knowing where you're going to be during that time.) That covered us for the next 4 months or so. You can get any book you need in Hanoi. If the touts on the street don't have the right country (usually they keep adjacent countries on hand), just let them know which one you need and they'll hustle away and get it for you. Of course, those are the bootlegged copies mentioned in #3. We didn't have to buy any guidebooks in Morocco, but I don't recall any convenient places for any kind of book. I did have to get a country's book in Italy - not a problem - even in English, but very expensive. Also - people leave them behind in guesthouses all the time - not something you can count on, but you may get lucky. Have fun!
