hi,

Im in the process of planning my round the world travels and need to get some advise on how to get from rio to salvador. I would really like to travel by boat up the coast and was wondering whether if anyone knows whether this is possible? Im going to be travelling on a budget so dont want to be splashing the cash on this boat trip and if it can only be done through cruise ships etc. then ill leave it.

Any advise on costs, companies or possiblities etc. would be greatly appreicated

happy travelling.

Hi,
I have no info on such boat trips but I wonder if they exist. You're aware that this is quite a huge distance, right? (something like Miami to Washington). Any particular reason on why exactly you want to do this by boat? Because you really want to do it by boat, or because you think it will be the cheapest?

FYI: Brazilian low-cost airline GOL can be a solution for long-distance travel within Brazil when bought in advance.

thanks charlie, i understand the length of the trip is quite long, but as i will be travelling by bus and planes for the rest of the 5 months so i thought this might be an interesting trip to do by boat (if at all possible). I have found cruise ships which offer this trip but are quite expensive, so i was hoping there may be an alternative out there, if not i will probably fly as you have suggested below, rather than do the 22 hour bus trip, i imagine i will be quite tired of long bus trips by then! thank you for taking the time to respond.

If you like surfing or the idea of learning it, consider going by in Itacaré, inbetween Ilheus and Salvador. Great great great town with superb beaches.
