After one years planning we will put our careers on hold and start our 15 month rtw starting beginning of august.

We will start with the siberian mongolian express,, to beijing than overland to singapore. Budget flights to philipines and indonesia before heading to south america via nz. Then follow the pacific coast from chile to mexico.

We plan 6 months in asia, 6 in south america and 3 months in central america.

Our joint budget is an average of 80 euro per day, excluding flights.
We plan to book flights as we go.
The biggest challenge will probably be nz to chile, cheapest flights seem to be around 1000euros each. Or what would anybody advise as the best route from se asia or nz to south america.

For your OZ to SA flights, shop for a few weeks to see how the price moves, try a few different dates and find the best deal you can, because it is expensive. Then book as far in advance as you can, because it's not likely to get cheaper.

Leaving in August, you should have pretty good weather through China and most of SE Asia, and maybe even the Philippines, but probably rainy weather for Indonesia. And of course, summer in OZ. You can't hit the best weather everywhere.

I can imagine spending 6 months for Asia, and 3 months in Central America, but with 6 months in SA, you probably would want to see a lot more than just the countries on the Pacific Coast. With 80 euros per day, you can afford to do this. If you're careful with the money, you'd be able to explore some down in Patagonia, and hit Buenos Aires in Argentina. And you can't skip Brazil, which is my favorite country in SA, in many ways.

Yes,agree with mstep on that flight....it will not be cheap however you do it,and the later you leave it the more it will cost.

On the budget..ir is pretty good overall..high for some places,low for others but should work out ok (depending on your travel style).

On the timescale...6 months is not a lot if you want to see China plus SE Asia,plus Australia and NZ?

6 months in SA is a good introduction..as above,you have enough time to move inland and see some other parts of the continent too,if you want to.

3 months Panama to Mexico is ok..a little tight if you want to spend a lot of time in Mexico
