Hi Everyone,

My husband, myself, and 2 kids - girls ages 12 and 10 will be leaving on a round the world tour next year for 12 months. We're very excited and are starting to really look at the details of where we want to go.

Our draft route is as follows:

Russia - Eastern Europe>>Western Europe>>Egypt, (if it's safe and stable), Kenya>>India>>SE Asia>>Australia>>N. Zealand>>China and Japan>>South America>>Canada, (home).

We're seasoned travellers for Western Europe and parts of SE Asia, but this will be a major trip for the kids. We've done the initial research and want to leave from Russia to Western Europe as wide open as possible so we can just go where and whenever. As we head into India we're looking for guidance on where we might go that's safe in terms of health, (we'll get all the necessary shots), as well as interesting beyond the Taj. Any ideas would be most welcome!

We're also looking for ideas around Russia....should we just to go St. Pete's and Moscow and then to Poland - or are there other "must sees" that we should make sure to see.

The kids will be homeschooled and will have projects based upon the historical aspects of each country as well as the "theme parks" and other family friendly activities.

Would love to hear ideas of "must see" for the family.

Thanks in advance!

This seems like an awful lot to do in 12 months, especially with two children. How much time were you looking at spending in each place?

Asia, Australia/ News Zealand and back to Asia. Any reason for doing it this way? And children are extremely resilient at that age. Its not like you're dragging small children around.

HI There,

We're planning to keep a wide open schedule and go and stay where we want according to our needs and interests. 4 months in Eastern and Western Europe, one month in Egypt/Kenya, one month in India, One month in SE Asia, 2 months in Oz and NZ. One month in China/Japan and one month in SA. Then home!

OUr kids are well travelled and roll with things quite well....we know their limits and will adjust accordingly.

Hi There,

Yes - this is the one problem with our route - but we are trying to chase summer. We plan on being in INdia in Jan/Feb, SE Asia in Feb/March. OZ and NZ in March/April/May, China in May/June - otherwise we'll have to bring winter clothes and right now we're planning on one bag each. We are travelling light!

WE talked to the travel agent about this....so if anyone has suggestions - would love to hear them!

Having taken a child away for a couple of long trips, its really hard to keep up the momentum of school work. We became a bit lax and still ended up with a son going on to university.
