I have long dreamed of just setting off on my own to travel...There were many times I talked myself out of it because I felt responsible for my family and animals. OPS!!!Im giving to much detail.(as usual). Anyway, Im over the family thing now. But there is still one issue...I have a horse that i DONT want to sell. I want to travel for about a year and dont quit know what to do with him...Any Bright ideas from anyone out there?

I have 2 cats that we love dearly, they are like family. We are giving them away to people we trust and know. In the grand scheme of things, 2 cats cannot stop me from seeing the world....

All the time I see people posting here that they want to travel overland around the world, or go by bicycle from London to Sydney, or some other hackneyed, overdone adventure travel cliche. B-o-r-i-n-g. Been there, done that.
You've got a golden opportunity here. Be the first Thorntree poster to ask for advice on riding a horse around the world!

Yea...Thats what sucks! I know i want to travel more than anything! I just thought that maybe i could work something out that didnt involve selling or giiving. I have to face the fact that I have to choose. Thanks for the encouragment!
You're American, you can ride him down to Patagonia! I don't think you can drive through the Darien Gap but your horse will get you through.
Dodgey - in the last issue of Cat Fancy magazine (I was at the vet) there was an article about a couple who bicycle toured South America, met a cat and took him with them in a basket for months of travel. He's now back in the States with them.

I think maybe I should put a little more thought into my questions before i ask them, as you guys dont seem to be very fond of me blurting out my concerns :)
Riding a horse around the world! Thats a great idea. But i dont have that kind of money...theres alot to it. But when i have a bigger horse trailer I (would love) to ride around the US though! Anyway, I guess i just look to this website for making the the right decision to much, Its been pretty much the only support i've gotten so far (family hates the idea of me traveling) So I probly take it a little over-the-top.
I go with the idea of riding your horse. You don't need a trailer, as you'll be riding your horse, and as it's an original project, perhaps you could even get sponsors. It'll be a nice and slow pace to really see the world. I'm from Swizerland, and a young girl just left from here 2 months ago, just her horse and herself, to reach Ireland and back. About 7000 km on horse back. Here's the site, but it's in french http://www.suisseirlande.com/

Other possibility, you must know other horse lovers who would be glad to look after your horse while you are away?
What answer are you looking for?
You can board the horse.
You can sublet your house with horse included. (I once sublet my apartment with my two cats included, granted it was in a very desirable NYC area for a cheap rent but I found some cat lovers to take care of them and pay my rent.)
You can offer to horse sit others horses in exchange for them to horse sit yours.
You can wait until the horse passes away.
