6 Months starting October, budget about 6000 euros, asia vs. south america

With your budget I would most likely choose SEA, depending where you are in the world flights are normally cheaper and the average daily budget is usually lower than it would be in SA. If you want to do ALL of SEA and northern India that could be a bit tight for timing. If you were to do just SEA that would be perfect timing. It's reccomended you spend about a month in each country so if you did Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malysia and Indonesia that's 6 countries in 6 months. Maybe only spend 2-3 weeks in Laos and extend your stay somewhere you really like or Sinapore!

Central America is more expensive in general than India/SE Asia...and some parts of South America are much more expensive (eg Brazil,Chile,Argentina),

Depends for me on your interests..what do you want to do on your trip?

I think in 6 months you could see some of northern India...then fly to Bangkok from Calcutta.

Spend several months in that area (Thailand,Laos,Cambodia etc.) and then make your way down via Malaysia to Indonesia.

Does that 6000 euros have to include everything? Flights from (Where?)...flights home,insurance etc....

thanks for the quick replies! yeah, 6000 euros is for all, so i probably should be flying too much around... isn't it possible to land in northern india, then take the bus to south east asia and see some of china or nepal on the way... or is that too expensive and really too much time-consuming you think?

also, is starting september not a bad time to start or would it be maybe wiser to land more east and head west during the months?

No,its not possible..you will need to fly from india to SE Asia.

Only possibility overland would be India-Nepal-Tibet (you need to go into Tibet on a 'tour',so very expensive...you need a guide,driver etc.)..then Tibet into China,and then China into SE Asia.

September is the end of the monsoon in India..not terrible,but you could push back the start to October.

October to March is good for most of SE Asia....

Don´t forget Myanmar. One of the best place in the world !!! And more and more accessible to tourists thanks to their recent political opening ! But you will have to take a plane, from Kolkota to Bangkok to Yangoon. With AIR ASIA it´s fairly cheap ! AIR ASIA the best company to fly through and to Asia.
6000 euros is really a lot of money for 6 months if you plane to travel cheap....
