Where to go!? Holiday advice for 3 female travellers please

Country forums / Western Europe / Portugal

Hello

This August, myself and two friends (all female, mid-twenties) are planning to go away for a week, roughly 10-17 Aug. We haven't booked anywhere as yet and are looking for some ideas/inspiration for places to go where we can relax but also has good culture/heritage and a bit of night life (not asking for much!).

We're quite keen to go somewhere coastal and have a budget of around £200 per person for accommodation.

I appreciate this is quite last minute and isn't the greatest of budgets but any tips, recommendations and/or advice please would be brilliant.

Many thanks in advance!

Somewhere in Portugal (Lisbon, Lagos etc) perhaps?

Keep in mind it's August, though, so you won't have the place to yourselves.

Maybe you should try a Pousada, most of them are located in historical buildings, like convents or palaces (the budget i think is fine). Or anyplace in the coast of Alentejo, where there's less people around?

If you prefer the Algarve, better hurry up, since this is late June. Usually more than 9 out of 10 rooms available will be occupied in August.

Why don't you just go to a travel agency and ask them what package holidays they have that you can afford? I'm guessing your 200 GBP per person is not per night by the way. Independent travel from the UK can rarely beat the cheap package holiday prices.

Posting repeatedly simply to change the destination country is not necessary and in fact is somewhat annoying.

Stayed n a Pousada at Sagres last September and the cost of a two night stay for two people was £175.

This price was available for those who were over 55 years old, which I guess the OP isn't... but other deals may be available according to the hotel's reception staff

Would agree with comments regarding package deals - some prices for w/c 12 July for instance are interesting. We've been looking at package deals just in case the weather is destined to turn nasty that week and we have to knock a week's camping in Suffolk on the head.

I've seen prices as low as £99 for the Algarve being quoted on the text site 201 that's accessed via Freeview TV in the UK. Select channel 201 and then hit the text button. Portugal/Algarve is on page 297.

May also be worth trying out Jet2 holidays website, Thomson or others.

Week in Rhodes for example with flights and self catering accommodation in Falaraki was £150 each from Leeds/Bradford airport for that date...

Maybe you have misunderstood this website people post on here to help others, with no charge but not to waste there time helping someone who has no idea where they want to go and just posted the same question in different countries. Do some of your own research then ask more specific questions

Scribblersback, unless you are happy in a lager lout mecca, do not opt for Faliraki on Rhodes.

If you are interested in Rhodes then describe the kind of place you would want to stay in and I will happily (as a past resident) tell you which places are more suitable on the island. For example,Rhodes has quiet seaside villages, busy family friendly resorts, bustling main town with a lot of nightlife, or lager lout favourites such as Faliraki.

No longer a student, band manager or music journalist, but I worked in Newcastle for a while and then lived in Sunderland whilst doing my degree so well used to places with 'character'...

The Rhodes example was just that - an example given the details from the OP 'Mid-twenties' who asked for 'A bit of night life'...

If the weather is going to be wet in Suffolk then we may just bite the bullet and go there.

There was however another place on Rhodes going for £210 a week each that wasn't in Falaraki and there do appear to be a few decent deals going for the Algarve too which could make it worthwhile to head to Faro, spend first and last nights in the allocated accommodation and to go walkabout for the other five nights to explore some of the quieter places on the Algarve or to head up to Lisbon for a few days...

A long sentence I know, but it shows what can be done to help keep things to one's own likings...

For August with budget look for West Holidays. Near Obidos, Peniche, you'll find beach, surfers, fantastic food and warm people!
