Trip to Sevilla

Country forums / Western Europe / Spain

Hi,

I'm going to Sevilla in July so I was wondering if 2 or 3 days were enough for the city and if you know if are there any tours to "El caminito del rey" in the "Desfiladero de los Gaitanes". I love extreme sports and adventures so I would like to go there.

Thanks,

Juan Fernando

3 full days can be enough IMO, don't know about the crowds in the summer and how long you will spend in the queues for the Cathedral/Giralda, the Alcazar..etc. I was there in November and there were some crowds although it was not top season (the weather was excellent for sightseeing though)

It'll depend on what you want to make/visit in Sevilla. Your travel style could make a difference too. 3 full days could be enough.

if you know if are there any tours to "El caminito del rey" in the "Desfiladero de los Gaitanes".

I think there are companies offering that service but they don't tell it's forbidden to walk the caminito del rey as well as they don't tell you about the fines you could face if you are caught...

I'm here for 2 days. I think that's a bit short. I could easily spend a couple of more days here but it's all about your style. Some people rush around and spend only 30 mins at each site. I take my time. I was in Alcazar pretty much all day. Brought water and snacks with me and a book. Looked around. Sat for a while reading. Repeated. There's no reason to go to Alcazar in the morning. When I first got there it was overrun by tourist groups. By the time I did my last walk through at 3:30 though, it was pretty empty.

I like Sevilla. I could easily spend a couple of weeks here and hang out. Beer is the cheapest I've seen anywhere. 30-40 cents for a cana/bottelin. That crazy isla magica park though is expensive. Even the special temporary price of 95 euro is crazy. I thought Disneyland was expensive. Oh, well. That's off the list.

I'm hoping to travel to Sevilla in Oct/Nov.

Are you planning on traveling anywhere else in Andalucia squid?

4

I've been to Cordoba and I'm going to Granada today. Cordoba is worth it for the Mezquita. Otherwise, not much. I wasn't much of a fan of it. Maybe a day or even a few hour stopover is enough for me. I like Sevilla though. I could stay here a while.

Andalusia accommodation is both not as nice and more expensive. The first place I stayed was about 33% more than the place I stayed in Toledo and not nearly as nice. Still quite acceptable. The places I stayed in Madrid and Toledo were both surprisingly nice considering the price I paid.

5

It's really easy. The downside of doing a daytrip is that you'll have to pay to get into the Mezquita. It's only free between 8:30-9:30am. I suppose you could take a really early bus. The bus station is about a 15 min walk away. Talk a strong across the bridge too.

6

And is it easy to do a day trip to Córdoba?

I think I'll stay 3 days in Sevilla, because I'm heading afterwards to Faro (Algarve) in Portugal. Seems to be cheap with the bus.

7

And is it easy to do a day trip to Córdoba?

Yes, it is.

8

squid- are you staying in flats or apartments, or hostels/hotels?

I've heard the Mezquita is just as breathtaking as the Al Hambra, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

9

I'm staying in hostals/hotels. Even though the one I'm staying in now advertises itself as an actual "hostel". I don't see much difference other than it has a common room that no one uses. Places to stay are cheap in Spain. I have my own room with AC, TV but shared bathroom for $26. If you need your own bathroom it'll cost you another $5-$10/more generally. In Toledo I got a spectacular room with my own bathroom. It was big, even had a spare little entry room before the actual bed room. It was steps from the Cathedral. Cost $29. I've been picking at least 8 rated places on Tripadvisor. If you go lower it gets cheaper. But at these prices I'll stick with the 8's. Every place I've stayed in Spain has been super clean.

"Andalusia accommodation is both not as nice and more expensive."
squidstrips. #5.

See #10.

11

Ah... OK. What's your point?

12

What are you trying to say in #10?

13

#10 is perfectly clear. What issues are you having in reading it?

14

#15, Yep. That's what I thought to. I just wanted him to say it to prove his lack of reading skills.... again. Look at #5 and look at #10. They are consistent if someone can read. The devil is in the details.

15

@squidstrips (#14): Judging from tony's post #11, I think his problems aren't reading your post #10 but making agree the info you provided in #10 with the info you provided in #5. I could be wrong though so wait for his answer to know for sure.

16

squidstrips, if you are looking for an argument, try someone else. I don´t have the time.

17

Then don't start it.

18

....shrugs.

I'm planning on traveling to Seville in mid-September after a work trip in Barcelona. What hostel did you stay at? Any recommendation on places to get some fairly cheap eats? Thanks!

20

I stayed here.

http://www.hostalgalasevilla.com/

Paid 21 euro/night. Perfectly fine. It's effectively one street over from the main bus station but it is kind of hard to find the first time. Once you find it, it's a quick walk around the corner and across the street to get back to the bus station. There's also that shopping center there with a supermarket in the basement.

The place I ate at most was at a Chinese place. The menu del dia was cheap and the portions large. I talked about it in another thread.

Same old anti-virus.

Both should be updated.

Avast is updated at least once a day, and frequently more often than that.

Avast is sttill blocking that link on 19 August at 10:00 Spanish time..
