TER train Annecy to Lyon

Country forums / Western Europe / France

I noticed that train on this route are regional TERtrains that do not take reservation bookings. We will need to take a train from Annecy to Lyon on a particular day. from your experience, can the mid-morning trains be very crowded? We will travel with large luggage.

I'd be very surprised if you have trouble getting on the train - crowded usually means you may have to stand up for a short distance. If you are a party of ten all with large luggage, perhaps you can spread yourselves over a few carriages but I still think you'll be fine.

Yes ... we have not done a huge amount of European rail travel, but we have done Annecy > Lyon, and I have no recall at all of it being crowded mid morning. At each end of each carriage, most European trains have luggage storage areas.

BTW I trust you're visiting Chamonix ... the Aiguille du Midi cable car up the Mont Blanc mountains is simply outstanding.

TER 17948 originates at Annecy. It will be completely empty when it will be put on the platform and then fill up more and more until the departure time. I don't think that it will be crowded even then.
