Riots in France?

Country forums / Western Europe / France

Will there be a lot of French people rioting across France after the elections they are having?

Will the trains and planes go on strike?

Probably.

?!?!?!?!?!

Ridiculous.

Last time there were anti-fascist demos because Le Pen went into the second round, but no riots.

People have very strange ideas about France. It is a lively place with a fair number of strikes, demonstrations, social movements - such as camping out in support of the homeless - etc (though far less time lost in strikes than here or many other countries - the strikes are typically short and symbolic) but all in all a safe and peaceful place.

The riots on housing estates in tough suburbs (not all of "la banlieue" is tough or poor - helly, Neuilly where Sarkozy was mayor is a banlieue - and the richest town in France) were nothing like some one might find elsewhere in the world with significant loss of life and considerable property damage.

Yes, we have already wired the Eiffel Tower for demolition, and there has been a run on pitchforks for the march on Versailles.

4

I'm sharpening my weapons and training hard for tomorrow night...You're never ready enough for a healthy bit of demonstration!

5

There's a civil war planned - north vs south ...

Keep your wits about you!

6

If Le Pen gets through to the 2nd round, yes, I hope there will be riots!

7

Umm, horrible little man, he was in the village unannounced 2 weeks ago - he was pathetic - his henchmen were very worrying!

This is hysterical, never heard it with the previous presidential election here ... the village has 'Don't Cry for me Argentina' over the public tannoys & we seem to have a gendarmerie presence in the village ... seeing the Mayor later at lunch, will have words!!!

Funny how some people see France...

10

Kira (#8) - I hope they hosed down the streets afterwards, although it would have been better to have done it while he was there.

11

it is ever possible but who can knows it in advance? It will depend of who will be elected and what will be his first steps at the presidencie. Its true that it could easyly degenarate but anyway I don't think that, as a tourist, you would be the target. It might be an interestinting experience for you to see a "social movement" from the inside and not by the medias.

His or HER first steps...

Lagatta :-)) One woman, one man, and they still say 'his'.
