Provence transport

Country forums / Western Europe / France

I will spent 9 days in France (fly in: Nice and fly out from Lyon). I want to visit Provence and love to visit the town in Southern part of France. What could you suggest my itineary?

How far from Nice to Provence if we take by bus/ train?

Hi,

I would definitely suggest Aix en Provence, and the Luberon area : these are beautiful places, with soft landscapes and plenty of beautiful villages. On the Coast, I would suggest Cassis and the 'calanques' around Marseille, unless you prefer balnear cities, but they can be unpleasantly overcrowded in summer !

Christine.

From Nice, Eze and Peillon.
Aix en Provence, Arles.
From Marseille (not more than a few hours, "old" harbour and hilltop), Cassis and the Calanques.
Stop in Avignon if you have time, on your way to Lyon.

Definately spend at least one day in Avignon as it is a wonderful place. visit the Popes Palace, walk around the gardens/ruins on the hill beside it. Have lunch in the main square which I believe is called the Place de L' Horloge. A day here is a delight.
