Overnight in Milan

Country forums / Western Europe / Italy

I am spending one night in Milan at the end of May and have done so much research that I am spoil for choice re accommodation. Can anyone recommend somewhere budget - mid range for a single travelller, arriving via Malpensa, just checking out the historic centre and hoping to view the Last Supper, leaving next day from Centrale stn. (Lots of accomm near stn but I read 'dodgy' so not sure about that).

Many thanks

You better book your Last Supper tickets in advance on the internet unless you are willing to not be able to go in. Tickets are limited and while in theory they might have a few for sale, when we were there we saw large crowds of Japanese tourists buying tickets. Most people reserve their tickets in advance through the internet. I don't remember the web site, but a search at Google or Yahoo should find it.

I used Vedere.com and read all the reviews of the places I was thinking about before I booked (I also got really good rates...) it depends on when you'll be there (high season is more expensive) but you might consider checking out Hotel Sempione. Overall, pretty good reviews!

Good luck!

Thanks all. Checked Sempione, then found the Casa Mia nearby, which is recommended in LP's haystack review. Booked via Booking.com (thanks qwovadis) same hotels, lower prices than Expedia or Venere.
Seems Last Supper tix all taken until 3rd July looking at the website. Didn't realise I needed to book 4 months ahead! I shall try phoning tomorrow in case I've misread something.
