New things to do in Paris?Country forums / Western Europe / France
I'm off to Paris again in a week. Can't believe Eurostar is £150 return - have to fly Easyjet (£65).
You shouldn't have waited until one week before departure to find Eurostar fares. You could have paid 1/3 the price with a little planning. | 1
#1 - yeah. i usually take eurostar over for £69 return but this was a last minute arrangement so couldn't book in advance. thanks for your museum suggestion. | 2
For history, if you haven't already: The Military Museum at Les Invalides; the Carnavalet - history of Paris; Le Musee du Moyen Age (fka Musee Cluny) | 3
The WWII museum at Les Invalides is particularly good. There's also a tiny museum there dedicated to the winners of the French Medal of Honor (I forget the exact name) from WWII. The wing dedicated to the Resistance is facinating, and the wing dedicated to deportees is extremely moving. | 4
Also, there are several small museums -- photography, fashion, and advertising -- in the Louvre, though not part of it. The entrances are off the Rue de Rivoli. | 5
The Musee Marmottan is great if you haven't been there already. If you like food, you should check out some of the specialty food shops in Paris. There's also day trips like Reims, Chartres, Giverny, etc. | 6
Musee Jacquemars-Andre on Boulevard Haussmann: private collection of arts and works presented in a superb 19th century "hotel particulier". Masterpieces of the Italian Renaissance and of eighteenth century French painting. Very interesting to discover decors and architecture from late 19th century. | 7
Thanks everyone for the suggestions - the new Musée du Quai Branly looks very interesting - I will definitely check it out. There is a new bridge over the Seine as well - looks good. I haven't been to the Arab museum as yet, again looks interesting. | 8
Art Museums: Musee Rodin of course. Also l'Orangerie. | 9
Something different: Musee des Egouts de Paris on the left bank of Pont D'Alma explores the wolrd of Parisian sewers. | 10
